A 64-year-old Ghanaian woman, Rose Amanor, has been sentenced to more than two years in prison on Friday.

This was after she was discovered with dried fish stuffed with heroine while making her way into the United States. She was nabbed at John F. Kennedy airport with three kilos of heroin, after a thorough checking.

Amanor’s 27-month sentence was short compared to the six-and-a-half years in prison prosecutors originally threatened. Explaining how she got allegedly got wrapped into the situation, the woman blamed her son for coercing her into bringing the heroin to the US.

‘I am asking you to have mercy on me so I can go home to my family and enjoy whatever time I have left with my family,’ the woman said through an interpreter.
