The former winger says he is undergoing tests after apparently falling ill on the French Riviera.

Former Premier League star David Ginola has tweeted that he is undergoing tests after falling ill while playing football "in the midday sun".

Earlier reports suggested he had suffered a cardiac arrest in Mandelieu on the French Riviera.

The 49-year-old was apparently transferred to the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco.

He later tweeted: "Footy match in the midday sun, not very clever.

"Now having some tests done. Whoever voted for a World Cup in Qatar in the summer?"

During a seven-year spell in the Premier League Ginola played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton before retiring in 2002.

He was the PFA Player of the Year in 1999.

During a brief international career, he won 17 caps for France between 1990 and 1995, scoring three goals.

Since retiring Ginola has become a media pundit.

In January 2015 he announced his intention to run for the presidency of FIFA.

But he withdrew shortly afterwards, having failed to get the backing of five football associations.
