Synod advises govt on anti-corruption campaign

In the face of official corruption and indiscipline which have remained serious national problems, the Federal Government has been called upon to set up an even-handed, non-partisan anti-corruption programme to redeem the battered reputation of the country.
In a communiqué issued at the end of First Session of the Fourth Synod of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland, with the theme: “Thy Hand O God, Has Guided” held at the Cathedral of St. Jude, Ebute-Metta and All Saints’ Church, Yaba, signed by the Diocesan Bishop, The Most Revd. Adebayo Akinde and the Secretary, The Ven. Luyi Akinwande, the synod says such a programme was an essential step if Nigeria is to make meaningful progress.

The communiqué also stated that to build a strong nation, a system that extols the virtues of hard work, godliness, equity, unity and amity amongst the various ethnic and religious components of the country must be put in place while the importance of re-orientating Nigerians to live by their means of income and in accordance with the laws of the land were also underscored.
The synod, while commending the Federal Government on its war against Boko Haram insurgency and success made so far, called for improved the conditions of internal displaced persons and an end to abduction and forced conversion of Christians to Islam.
On the problem of Fulani herdsmen, the synod asked government to address the issue decisively while everything possible should be done to restore orderliness and safety in Niger Delta.
Among other areas, the communiqué asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address inconclusive elections; that the national budget recently signed into law be implemented while contestants to political offices should not see it as a do-or-die affair.
It commended Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambde for his work in the state urging him to pay attention to urban renewal in the state, especially in the Ebute Meta, Yaba, Orile Iganmu/Coker areas of Lagos metropolis.It finally called every Nigerian to give room for God and allow Him His rightful place in their lives.
