Leicester City’s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has given players of his club £10,000 each in gambling chips and cash to celebrate their title success at the casino.
According to The Mirror UK, Srivaddhanaprabha took the entire squad and backroom staff out for lunch last Tuesday after which the players went to a Casino where the owner stunned players by handing them chips and cash totalling £10,000 each.
A source told The Mirror: “The chairman was putting £5,000 chips in the top pockets of some of the boys and telling them to enjoy themselves.”
Srivaddhanaprabha did a similar gesture when Leicester won promotion to the Premier League when he gave each player and staff member a £1,000 chip to use at a London private members’ club.
The Premier League have strict rules about club bonus structures being finalised before the start of the season but they will not be fined for this as the financial gesture was not intended to encourage Leicester’s players to win a specific match.
City’s Premier League success has earned the Foxes around £130million as they will bank £93m in Premier League prize and TV money and qualification for the Champions League group stage will guarantee a further £30m.
Leicester’s squad’s official bonus scheme has earned them £6.5m, to be divided, as reward for finishing the season above 12th as agreed in pre-season.
