Anambra government condemn Biafra protest

The Anambra state government condemned Biafra protests in the region
It declared the protests as illegal
It hinted that security operatives have the right to wade into the protest
The Anambra state government has reacted to the face-off between security operatives and pro-Biafra agitators which led to the killing of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The incident happened on Monday, May 30 during the anniversary of the declaration of Biafra which was commemorated by rallies in several parts of the south east.
The rally turned violent in the Nkpor/Onitsha axis of Anambra state as some mebers of IPOB were killed by security men after it was claimed that two policemen were thrown into the Niger River by the protesters.
Tony Nnacheta who is the commissioner for information and communications and strategy in Anambra state in a statement blamed the pro-Biafra agitators for engaging in illegal demonstration.
The statement read: “The attention of the Anambra state government has been drawn to illegal demonstration by a group of individuals causing anxiety at the Nkpor/Onitsha axis of the state.
“The law enforcement agencies are fully engaged on the situation and are currently working to restore normalcy and free movement for all law abiding citizens.
“Ndi Anambra are hereby advised to remain calm and vigilant and to go about their lawful businesses. All should note that there are laws against disturbance of public peace.”
Meanwhile, Solomon Arase, the Inspector General of Police, ordered disbarment of the activists of IPOB.
He also condemned the killing of policemen by the pro-Biafran group.
