What Buhari's govt will do with recovered loot: APC chairman
– The APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun said President Buhari will recover all looted funds
– Oyegun stated that all recovered loot will be deposited into the nation’s account
– The party has resolved to allow peace to reign and put aside its differences
The national chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has assured that all recovered looted funds will be brought back into the economy.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration will recover all loots and it would be deposited into the nation’s account, Daily Sun reports.
“We don’t just recover money and spend it. When we recover money, it will go into the revenue purse, it will be deployed appropriately with the normal legislative approach,” he said.
Oyegun said faulted those criticising the present administration that it had spent a year in office when the 2016 budget, which is its first budget, was passed yesterday.
Meanwhile, the APC has resolved to settle their differences for peace to reign so that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not take advantage of it to relaunch a come-back.
The party will be holding its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, March 24.
The NEC meeting will be attended by high profile members of the APC, including President Buhari, his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and former Lagos state governor, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
The meeting of NEC, which is the party’s highest decision making organ, is expected to approve modalities and timetable for congresses to fill other vacant seats in the National Working Committee (NWC).
It was gathered from a reliable party source that some of the key issues that will be discussed are formal adoption/launching of party constitution, appointment of a new party spokesman who is to operate in acting capacity pending the ratification at the next convention.
On Tuesday night, Buhari had a meeting with the national caucus of the party, comprising serving and former governors, the National Assembly leadership, and selected members of the national executive of the party.
At the meeting of the national caucus, the leaders agreed to replace Board of Trustees (BoT) with Council of Elders which would be reflected in the constitution, This Day reports.
“So, there won’t be anything like BoT again. There won’t also be anything like BoT chairman, secretary and the rest. Though there is plan to change the constitution, it will be adopted at the NEC meeting today which will be passed later at the party’s convention,” APC said.
The caucus at the meeting also constituted a committee to resolve all pending issues in the party among other pressing issues. They were also said to have agreed that President Buhari should be allowed to seek a second term.
