89 members of the dreaded Boko Haram group have been sentenced to death in Cameroon on terror charges.
According to BBC Hausa service, the terrorists were convicted by a military court for their roles in several attacks in Cameroon’s northern region which borders Nigeria.
The Multi-National Joint Task Force – which Nigeria and Cameroon are both members – has vowed to coordinate intelligence and operation that will lead to the decimation of the insurgency that has claimed thousands of life in the two countries.
The death sentence is the first time it will be executed since a new anti-terror law was passed in 2014 in the country.
The terrorists who have been sentenced to death are part of the 850 who are still in detention over their roles in Boko Haram attacks in the country.
In 2013, 23 people were sentenced to death. President Muhammadu Buhari visited Cameroon in 2015 to hold a critical talk with his Cameroonian counterpart to fashion out the best way to tackle the escalating threat of Boko Haram sects.
