M. S Labaran, the counsel to Department of State Services
The Department of State Services  (DSS) has disclosed why it believes the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is making effort to stall his trial.
In an interview with journalists at the court on Monday, June 20, counsel to the DSS, M. S Labaran who made the allegation said, a fresh motion on notice by the defendants was aimed at stalling trial.
“We are confronted with another strategy to truncate the trial in this matter, while the defendants bring up another motion seeking the court to disqualify itself from the hearing,” Labaran said.
He said the motion on notice by the defendants is very “fundamental and strongly worded”.
Labaran also said that the motion is important and requires the response of prosecution.
“But that is not our subject of concern, we have equally witnessed another drama again this morning where one of the defendants rejected the hitherto lead counsel in the matter and opted for another counsel,” the DSS counsel said,
He said the call for a new lawyer by the second defendant has lead to the prayer for more time to allow the new counsel get acquainted with the matter.
On Monday, June 21, the three defendants – Kanu, David Nwaawuisi and Benjamin Nwabugwu – had served a motion on notice on the prosecution.

The motion asked the judge, John Tsoho to disqualify himself from the trial of Nnamdi Kanu and all the other two accused persons.
Also, at yesterday’s hearing, the second accused person in the matter – Nwabugwu – sacked the lead counsel and hired another one.
The new counsel, Amobi Nzelu through the sacked lawyer also pleaded with the court to permit him sometime to collect the proceedings of the trial and also get acquainted with it before a next trial date.
With no objection from the prosecution on the plea, Justice Tsoho adjourned the matter to September 26 t0 29 for hearing on the motion on notice and commencement of trial.
